3 Steps to Maintaining Motivation

In my last post I talked about the benefits of having clarity. If you missed it, you can read it here: BENEFITS OF CLARITY. In that post, I promised to talk about maintaining motivation and momentum. Why? Because when you’re clear about what you want and start making progress towards it, obstacles will come. They show up in the form of limiting beliefs, remarks by people of influence in your life, and life events. To live the life you really want to live, you have to be able to keep going despite what’s going on in your life.So, how do you do it? Here are some things you can do to keep motivated to have the life you really want.

3 Steps to Take for Maintaining Motivation to Live The Life You Really Want:

  1. Regroup and ask if what you’re going after is still what you want.
    This one can be tough to do, especially if you’ve been pursuing something for a long time. However, it may be exactly what’s needed for maintaining motivation.
  2. Create a written motivation plan. 
    This plan should include music you listen to that perks you up, motivational videos/podcasts, and activities that you enjoy. When your motivation starts to dwindle grab your list and do some of the things on there whether you want to or not.
  3. Surround yourself with people who are taking consistent action in their lives.
    The company you keep is so important. There’s a saying that goes “You lay down with dogs, you get up with fleas.” This saying is so true. You may think who you surround yourself with isn’t affecting you but it is. Maintaining motivation is going to require that you choose your companions wisely.

It’s important to maintain your momentum by staying motivated if you are going to live the life you really want. When you’re not motivated you more than likely won’t take action. 3 Ways Clarity Will Change Your Life

Do you know what you want to have, be, and do? A lot of people live life without clear answers to these questions. They face each day agitated and stressed and are unsure why they feel that way.

These issues are then addressed with prescription meds, alcohol, or illegal drugs. What’s really being addressed are the symptoms of a bigger problem. That problem is lack of clarity.

Having clarity will change your outlook on life; it will give you life.

Here are a few things having clarity will do for you:

1. Reduce stress.

When you know what you want life becomes more simple. It’s easier to say “no” to the activities and people that pull you away from your goals and dreams.

2. Boost your confidence.

When you know what you want you walk a little taller. Clarity builds confidence.

3. Wake you up excited to live your life.

Knowing what you desire gives you something to focus on. When you’re focused you have purpose and that is what will wake you up excited each day. In my next blog post I’ll talk about how to stay motivated.

My journey

Life and our choices can take us along some winding paths. Did you know that I was an environmental toxicologist and a college instructor before becoming a personal development coach (you can read more about it here ABOUT ME )? What are you waiting on

Manifest, manifest, manifest

Vision boardMANIFEST: readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sense of sight (merriam-webster.com) or clear or obvious to the eye or mind(dictionary.com).

I expected the definition of manifest to include only what you could see with your eyes.  Imagine how surprised I was to see that manifest included being perceived by the mind. It makes sense that manifest include the mind. You have to first see what you want in your mind before it can appear in the physical realm.

Reading those definitions really gave me a deeper understanding of how to manifest. It made me realize how important it is to have a clear vision for my life, the clearer that vision,the easier for my mind to picture it and once my mind pictures it, then my eyes will see it.

When you’re not manifesting what you’re believing for do the following:

  1. Find scriptures where God promises to give you the desires of your heart. Say these scriptures out loud, write them down, until you believe them.
  2. Get a clear picture of what you want. Do this by answering questions. The first one being, “What do you want?”, others include, What does it look like? How will you feel when you get it? Where will you put it?
  3. Rehearse this mental picture until it becomes so real to you that it has no choice but to show up.

Lesson learned from FAU football

This is going to be quick. The 2016 college football season ended with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) having a record of 3-9 overall and 2-6 in their conference (espn.com). For the 2017 season they hired a new coach, the former offensive coordinator at University of Alabama, Lane Kiffin. To say the team has been transformed is an understatement. Lane Kiffin has turned a team with years of having a losing record, to a winning team. Incredible! Why am I even talking about football and coaching on my blog? I wanted you to see what a difference good coaching and good mentoring can make.

I am so proud of FAU football and grateful that I get to watch this transformation happen. It has inspired me so much. The lesson I learned from FAU football is that we all have so much potential in us and sometimes all it takes is having the right people in our lives or being in the right environment to pull it out of us. Be great.

Dreaming of 2018

In approximately 73 days 2018 will be here and I’m excited about it. The New Year is a great time to regroup, reassess, and decide what to do next and do it. I have so much that I want to do in 2018. I’m taking action right now to make sure that my 2018 is wonderful. How about you? Are you dreaming of 2018?

Push past your feelings

I’m feeling lazy today, I think I’ll do nothing.

I’m doing a 30 day blogging challenge (Blogging Challenge) I won’t lie to you, the struggle is real. Seriously, there are days that I really have no desire to blog. Not only is there no desire, sometimes I can’t even think of what to blog about. Yikes! Not a good problem to have during a 30 day challenge. On days when I’ve felt this way do you know what I did? I wrote the blog post anyway! Yup. Those feelings are fickle and if I had given in to them I probably would have written about 2 blog posts so far, instead of 10.

Being consistent, keeping my commitments to myself, and not giving in to that voice telling me to throw in the towel, are why I am going to be successful with this blogging challenge. I want to encourage you today to not give in to feelings that are telling you to quit. Push past your feelings and do what you’ve committed to doing. You will be rewarded. Your whole life will change because when you’re consistent, when you’re keeping commitments to yourself, and when you’re doing what needs to be done even if you don’t feel like it, your life has to change because you have changed.

Consistent Action Brings Rewards

Consistency, being steady. I chose to talk about taking consistent action today because I’m doing a 30 day blogging challenge and today the words won’t come. Instead of giving up I decided to blog about having no ideas for a post. Writing about it would keep me on track, consistent, and still committed to the blogging challenge.

I could have easily made a decision not to write today.When I’m not inspired to write it’s frustrating. However, not writing would be me not keeping my word to myself. I did not want to let myself down so I showed up.My reward for showing up, words started flowing and here I am encouraging you to be consistent with whatever you said you would do.

Being consistent is a choice, a decision that you make. When you’re taking consistent action you are becoming disciplined, you’re becoming a person of integrity, you’re becoming a person who gets things done.Some days it won’t be easy but it will be worth it, you’re worth it.

3 Things To Avoid If You Desire a Great Week

If you’re feeling like I am, you’re probably ready to have a great week. What’s a great week? I’m talking about a week of intentional living. A week where you live your life on purpose and with a purpose. A week that will leave you feeling so fulfilled that you’re bursting from the seams with joy. Have you ever had a week like this? I have and whenever it happened it was usually because I planned a really good week, I was intentional about having an amazing week. Do you want a week like this? Do you believe this type of week is possible and that it’s possible for you?

I asked the question about you believing that a great week being possible for you because I have encountered so many women and men who want to have a better life but believe that it’s too late or it’s not possible because they’re already living life a certain way. This type of thinking has to go. I want you to know that an amazing life is very possible for you, especially if you’re not doing these 3 things.

3 Things To Avoid If You Desire a Great Week.

  1. Not making a decision. The first step to having a great week is to choose to have one. You have to decide, make a decision, without it you won’t be committed to ensuring that your week is great.
  2. Not having a plan. A great week can just happen, however, you can have great weeks anytime you desire by being intentional about your week. Planning for a wonderful week increases the likelihood that it will happen. When you’re not intentional about your week you will probably have a lot of incomplete items on your to do list, more stress, and quite possibly miss out on some really good opportunities all because you didn’t make a plan for them.
  3. Not taking action. A great week is going to require taking action. Like I said above, these type of weeks don’t usually just happen. With that in mind, what steps are you taking, not talking about, what are you actually doing to ensure that you have an epic week?
