Musings from a tree

While perched on a branch of my favorite tree today I had a realization. Backtrack. I’m calling it my favorite tree because it’s easy to climb and has a lot of low, sturdy branches. I digress, back to my realization.

These plants and trees didn’t just spring up overnight. Seeds and seedlings had to be planted in good soil, watered, and the trees had to be given the time needed to grow. These plants withstood storms, hurricanes, and many dry seasons and they made it.

Like these trees, your transformation is going to take some time too. Allow it to happen. Don’t rush the process, don’t skip steps. Can you imagine what would have happened if these trees received no water? Stay the course, read the books, watch the videos, take an action towards your dream and give it time. You’ll like what happens.

The truth is you may really hate where you are right now but you are still not ready to do what it is going to take to change. If that’s where you are acknowledge it and keep working on getting to the place where you are ready to make a change.

If you are ready for the trajectory of your life to change, great. Let’s go. Guess what has you where you currently are in your life? Your thoughts. Yes, your current situation is the product of your thoughts. I know, it hurts. The first time that I read this I was livid, “no way am I responsible for my life being the way it is”. I couldn’t get that statement out my head for several weeks. I started paying attention to my thoughts and realized it was true, my thoughts were keeping me where I was. Ouch!

Anti-Anxiety Package

anti anxiety package advertising

God has a plan for your life and it’s a good one. Fear and anxiety are not a part of that plan. God’s will for you is peace, not just any peace, but a peace that goes beyond our understanding, and a peace that will guard our hearts and minds. He wants you to focus on good thoughts, things that are true. Anxiety is worry about something that has not happened yet and that doesn’t sound like truth to me.

In the Anti-anxiety package I walk you though the scriptures and show you that God doesn’t want you worrying. You’ll learn how to take those worrying thoughts captive so that you can have the peace that God promises. Confession cards are also provided to help you train yourself to think about God’s promises so that you can have a sound mind. A subscription to my newsletter is also included to encourage and uplift you.

5 Simple and Natural Weight Loss Strategies

Weight loss, two words that can make just about anybody cringe. Losing weight doesn’t have to be a battle and keeping it off shouldn’t be either. I’m going to show you how with 5  simple and natural strategies.

Everybody has reasons for wanting to lose weight. Whatever yours is remember to be sensible and safe. This is a good place for me to add a disclaimer. I am not a medical professional so please consult a physician or a therapist if necessary before following anything listed below.

Now that that is out of the way I will say that if you implement any one of the strategies on this list you have a really good chance of seeing some change in your life. Let’s get started.

  1. Make the decision. This is a big one and I present this idea first because without it nothing much is going to happen. If you want to lose weight you have to make the decision to lose weight. It sounds simple but it can be the most difficult decision to make. No matter how much you want to lose the weight making the decision is often the hardest. Once you make the decision you’ll find the rest isn’t so hard.
  2. Get moving. I know, you’re tired of hearing this one, but it’s true. To burn off fat and calories you have to get moving. Don’t fret. You don’t have to have a gym membership or hire a personal trainer. Although, if you want to you certainly can. To get moving, all that you have to do is increase your activity level. So, get up and walk around, increase the number of steps that you take each day and you will begin to notice a difference. Remember, slow and steady wins this race.
  3. Reduce your calorie intake (especially if you’re not going to exercise). The reality is, if you’re eating and not matching your intake with what you’re burning through exercise or some other type of movement you are going to gain weight. Reducing the amount that you eat (or drink) doesn’t have to be painful. If you usually have 4 spoons of rice, have 3 or even 3 ½ instead. If you drink 5 cans of soda (even if it’s diet), reduce it to 4. Each week, gradually decrease your intake. You want to be healthy though so don’t decrease your intake too much. There are some great online resources that will let you know how many calories you should have each day. Stay within the recommended guidelines. Remember, you’re in this for the long haul. You want to lose the weight and keep it off. By gradually reducing your food intake you are more likely to keep the weight off.
  4. Supplement. Supplements can be added to your weight lost regime. It’s best to get your vitamins and minerals from foods, so that’s always the number one recommendation. However, there are some good quality supplements out there that you can try. I’m no medical doctor so always check with your physician before taking any kind of supplements. I’m only going to tell you about 2 supplements (there are tons). I thought these two were pretty interesting.

Fish Oil: Fish oil along with exercise has been shown to reduce body fat ( Hill,                         Murphy, Buckley, & Howe ,2007). You can get your fish oil (omega 3s) from foods                 like fish (salmon, mackerel, sardine), walnuts,  and even beef (grass-fed is best).

L-glutamine: L-glutamine is an amino acid and it has been demonstrated to                           reduce waist size (Laviano, A., Molfino, A., Lacaria, M., Canelli, A., De Leo, S.,                       Preziosa, I., & Rossi Fanelli, F., 2014). Foods rich in l-glutamine include red                           cabbage, lean cuts of beef, poultry, eggs, and dairy products.

  1. Know your “why”. This is a big one because this is why you will make your decision to lose the weight and it is also why you will keep the weight off once you have lost it. You’re the only one who knows why you want to lose weight. Be honest with yourself about what that reason is and watch things begin to change for you.

I applaud you for taking steps to losing the weight and keeping it off. I think you realize by now that weight loss has a lot to do with your mindset. If you can find a reason for wanting to lose weight and make the decision (commitment) to lose weight you will more than likely lose the weight and keep it off (that’s if some other health issue isn’t going on).

Forgiveness

Have you ever been disappointed with yourself? I have. I was living a life that was not in alignment with who I was deep inside. I was victorious, “winning” at life on the inside, but on the outside I was failing, on the precipice of losing just about everything. How did I get there?

One thing was certain. I didn’t get to that place in my life overnight. No, that destination was years in the making. Little decisions made here, big ones made there, not following God’s lead, not asking for His direction.

As things started falling apart I began recognizing my role in it all. Because I could see my folly, I felt that I deserved everything that was happening to me. The life I was living was one that I created. I made my bed, I had to lay in it. End of story.

Well, I grew tired of laying in that bed and needed to do something about it. It was time to “earn” my way out of it. Yes, earn. I needed to work harder to turn things around. I needed to prove myself and boy did I have a lot to prove. At  least that’s what I thought.

I immediately got to work trying to prove myself worthy of something different in my life. Things would start to change and then they would fall apart. I would be on the brink and everything would come tumbling down. Why was this happening? During this time God gave me some instructions, the direction to go, He told me to trust Him. I didn’t do what He said but I thought I was trusting Him.

One day, I had an “aha” moment. I was reading a paranormal romance book called Dark Lover by JR Ward (it’s amazing where you can find what you need to move forward). The family of one of the main characters in the book was underseige. To protect him, his father locked him in a safe space. He survived. His parents died. He could not forgive himself for not breaking out of the safe place and fighting with his parents. He suffered for centuries (did I mention he was a vampire) with self-worth issues. Wrath was born with a vision impairment. After his parents’ death and as he aged he started going blind and eventually lost his sight. In a dream I had an epiphany, if Wrath could forgive himself for not being able to fight with his parents the night of their murder, he would get his sight back. I don’t know if that’s part of the author’s story line or not, but it’s the revelation that I had. You’ll see where I’m going with this in a minute.

That same day, I was listening to a success author/coach, Lisa Nichols, speak about her journey and how in order to create the life that she wanted she had to learn to forgive herself. There it was again. I realized that I needed to forgive myself.

I was worthy because I was, because I exist. That life I wanted was mine because of God’s grace and mercy but I would not allow myself to receive it. I believed that I had to earn it, I had to do some things to make myself worthy of it. If I were ever going to extricate myself from the web that I was weaving I was going to have to forgive myself.

I immediately thought of the things that I was disappointed with and said out loud that I forgive myself. I forgave myself for everything that I knew I was holding against myself. A breath of fresh air literally washed over me. I forgave myself. I was enough. I am enough. My experiences led me to here and fueled my passion to help others.

Do you need to forgive yourself so that you can usher in the life that you really want for yourself? Look in the mirror and say out loud “I forgive you” and forgive yourself of it all and welcome your new life.

Be blessed.
