From Information Junkie to Action Taker

horse-430441_1280

Are you one of those go-getter, I have an idea, let me implement it, type of person?  Or, are you more like I was (and still am sometimes), one of those, I have an idea, let me research it, and research it again, let me think about it, hmmm, let me think about this some more, onto the next idea type of person. I love learning. I love collecting information. I love thinking about the information I have collected. Implementation however, that’s another story.

Because I love researching (former scientist), I read lots of books and listened to lots of podcasts on how to take action. They all left me feeling frustrated though because they didn’t offer any advice that made me want to get up and take action. I finally got the message, the only way to take action is to take action!

Sorry people like me, it’s true. You have to become a different type of person and take action. Stop collecting information, trust me, you have enough. Stop thinking about the information you have, just start doing what you already know needs to be done. Choose one action and do it, today! Once you start, you’ll want to continue taking action. A body in motion stays in motion is true.

I’d love for you to share in the comments, ONE action you are going to take TODAY to create the life that you really want. I believe in you.

Don’t Underestimate that Walk in the Park

I LOVE nature. Being outside surrounded by old trees, water, and even the bugs, invigorates me. I feel refreshed, alive, and I am ready for “what’s next” in my day.

Whenever I allow several days to go by without my time outdoors I notice the difference in myself. I am easily agitated, my to-do list becomes burdensome, I feel like I need to get away.

I did not observe the correlation between my demeanor and my touch with nature right away.  However, ever since my realization, I make it a priority to spend time in my green environment regularly.

There may be an activity, a certain environment, or even a scent that makes you feel alive, that sets the reset button on the chaos brewing in your life. Don’t underestimate the simple things that can make your life more satisfying. Make these a regular part of your week and revel in the change it brings to your life.

What makes you feel recharged and ready for “what’s next”?

Do you find it hard to stay focused? Focus is easy when you’re doing what you know deep in your gut that you should be doing.

If what you’re doing is draining you, making you feel scattered, filling you with dread ask some questions. It may be time to let go of some things and change direction.

What are you letting go of?

Forgiveness

Have you ever been disappointed with yourself? I have. I was living a life that was not in alignment with who I was deep inside. I was victorious, “winning” at life on the inside, but on the outside I was failing, on the precipice of losing just about everything. How did I get there?

One thing was certain. I didn’t get to that place in my life overnight. No, that destination was years in the making. Little decisions made here, big ones made there, not following God’s lead, not asking for His direction.

As things started falling apart I began recognizing my role in it all. Because I could see my folly, I felt that I deserved everything that was happening to me. The life I was living was one that I created. I made my bed, I had to lay in it. End of story.

Well, I grew tired of laying in that bed and needed to do something about it. It was time to “earn” my way out of it. Yes, earn. I needed to work harder to turn things around. I needed to prove myself and boy did I have a lot to prove. At  least that’s what I thought.

I immediately got to work trying to prove myself worthy of something different in my life. Things would start to change and then they would fall apart. I would be on the brink and everything would come tumbling down. Why was this happening? During this time God gave me some instructions, the direction to go, He told me to trust Him. I didn’t do what He said but I thought I was trusting Him.

One day, I had an “aha” moment. I was reading a paranormal romance book called Dark Lover by JR Ward (it’s amazing where you can find what you need to move forward). The family of one of the main characters in the book was underseige. To protect him, his father locked him in a safe space. He survived. His parents died. He could not forgive himself for not breaking out of the safe place and fighting with his parents. He suffered for centuries (did I mention he was a vampire) with self-worth issues. Wrath was born with a vision impairment. After his parents’ death and as he aged he started going blind and eventually lost his sight. In a dream I had an epiphany, if Wrath could forgive himself for not being able to fight with his parents the night of their murder, he would get his sight back. I don’t know if that’s part of the author’s story line or not, but it’s the revelation that I had. You’ll see where I’m going with this in a minute.

That same day, I was listening to a success author/coach, Lisa Nichols, speak about her journey and how in order to create the life that she wanted she had to learn to forgive herself. There it was again. I realized that I needed to forgive myself.

I was worthy because I was, because I exist. That life I wanted was mine because of God’s grace and mercy but I would not allow myself to receive it. I believed that I had to earn it, I had to do some things to make myself worthy of it. If I were ever going to extricate myself from the web that I was weaving I was going to have to forgive myself.

I immediately thought of the things that I was disappointed with and said out loud that I forgive myself. I forgave myself for everything that I knew I was holding against myself. A breath of fresh air literally washed over me. I forgave myself. I was enough. I am enough. My experiences led me to here and fueled my passion to help others.

Do you need to forgive yourself so that you can usher in the life that you really want for yourself? Look in the mirror and say out loud “I forgive you” and forgive yourself of it all and welcome your new life.

Be blessed.

Please don’t let me wing it and fly by the seat of my Pants

I didn’t realize it before, but I was a rebel. I rebelled against structure and routine. I did not want to take the time to consider it all. I would rather “wing it and fly by the seat of my pants.” This way I have my freedom and I’m in control. Or, so I thought.

I scoffed at people with everything mapped out. Rise at 6, oatmeal at 6:30, chicken on Monday’s, grocery shopping on Thursday’s. How restricting I thought. My way of doing things gave me so much freedom. Rise anytime before 7,breakfast whenever I wanted (if I want), who knows what’s for dinner, and I’ll grocery shop whenever I want, thank you very much!

There’s a saying that goes “how you do anything, is how you do everything”, it’s true. My attitude about routine and planning in my daily personal life carried over to all the other areas of my life. The goals that I set for myself and the life I envisioned were not happening. Time was passing and I felt like my life was falling apart.

Where was the control and freedom I reveled in? What was happening? Why was I finding it so difficult to get things done? Things I wanted. Isn’t that what my control and freedom were all about? No schedule and no routine, doesn’t that equate to me having more time and motivation to do the things I really wanted to do?

Guess what? Not so. I gradually realized (and I do mean gradually) that having a routine, having a schedule, being (the D word), disciplined was very freeing! I looked forward to my days because I knew  exactly what was happening and when it was happening. I was getting things done. Those goals that I had wriiten down, that life I envisioned; things were falling into place. The light at the end of the rainbow, well I can see it.

Discipline, routine, a schedule, and a plan. Who would have thought the things I ran away from were the things I needed most? That’s how it usually happens though right?

Let me know what you’re running from? Take a deep look. It may be exactly what you need.
